Sports and Extra Curricular Activities

Extra Curricular Activities – Introduction

Coppice values the breadth that extra curricular activities can add to children’s lives and offers a wide variety of clubs and opportunities each half term.

When Ofsted visited in 2010 they stated that “Children have an excellent understanding about how to lead a healthy lifestyle and participate fully in the very extensive provision for physical education both during the school day and through extra-curricular activities.”

These include cross country, tennis, football and netball to name but a few. Many other activities are offered and these include performing arts activities such as Choir, artistic activities such as Arty Crafty Club and skill-based activities such as Cooking and Bikeability.

If you would like to book your child onto an extra curricular club please access these via School Money, we will not be accepting cash payments as we are now a cashless site.

We offer a wide variety of sporting clubs to our pupils.  Most are available as extra curricular clubs or within school time and the timetable for these is updated each term and detailed on this page.

Badminton

An early morning extra-curricular activity, that runs from 8.00 to 8.40am, and gets the children active, ready for the school day.

Cheerleading/Dance/Gymnastics

Due to its overwhelming popularity, we have retained the services of the JC Academy coaches and Chris Hughes to do early morning extra-curricular activities, that run from 8.00 to 8.40am.  Please see most up to date timetable as to which mornings these are available.

Choir

For the budding super star singers out there we offer choir who go onto do annual carol services during the festive times, do whole school performances and participate in local community musical activities too.

Cross Country/Athletics

The tradition at Coppice of producing high quality distance runners and athletes looks set to continue for years to come.

Training sessions for cross country run during the winter term with athletics running during spring and summer. The training involves regular one mile runs to improve stamina and general fitness, technical inputs to improve the running styles, and strength training to prepare for the indoor and outdoor athletics competitions.

Dodgeball/Hockey

Depending of popularity and seasons we offer dodgeball and hockey for Years 5 and 6 weekly so best to always check which activity is available on the most up to date timetable.

Football

Following the success Coppice teams have enjoyed in and out of school hours in local football competitions we continue to give our pupils in Years 5 and 6 the opportunity to represent our school.  In 2022/23 we had successful boys and girls football teams and look forward to many more years to come.

We offer football as an extra-curricular activity for different age groups throughout the week.

Lego and Art Club

For children in KS1 (Reception, Years 1 and 2) who want to participate in an extra curricular club we have the hugely popular Lego and art club.

Netball

Following a very successful start we are offering netball training weekly for Years 4, 5 and 6 and have been taking part in local tournaments.

Tae Kwondo

We offer Tae Kwondo for Year 4 & 5 pupils through JC Academy coach Gaynor Sergiew, 7th Degree Black Belt, who also grades the students regularly as they make progress.  This popular club is limited to 20 places.

Tennis

We offer tennis to all age groups within Coppice split over two sessions of KS1 and KS2 during each week.
